Bogart had spent the past 48 years tending to the lighthouse.
Long enough to see the cobblestone streets of his little town grow crowded with electric scooters. For the late-night trad music drifting through his windows to be replaced by deejays and their incessant, glass-rattling uhn-ts uhn-ts.
Bogart drew the line when his best friend Elmer lost the café. It was bought out by a Starbucks.
A fucking Starbucks.
He sipped his flask as the fire swelled, consuming the coastal town like a rising tide. He hummed along with Bob Dylan on his analog radio.
