I’d like your help.
Very few people read this newsletter, you know. That’s the burden of self-publishing: it’s on me to try and market myself. There is no guaranteed web traffic, no featured posts to drive new readership. Even the shark tank that is instagram, troublesome though the algorithm may be, is built to put me in front of strangers who would otherwise never find my content.
This here? This is all me, baby. Ain’t nobody finding this unless I tell them where to look.
At the start, I was perfectly alright with that. This was meant to be about me. The point of before my coffee gets cold was the act of doing it, not the outcomes it would drive.
But now…well, I’ll be honest with you friends: my goals have changed. I’ve already proven to myself that I can do the thing. I can post these installments regularly and use my lived experience drive reflection in my readers. Hell, this newsletter ended up inspiring a self-help book that is currently out in beta reads. (Turns out, I have a lot of thoughts on living a magical life!) And that’s fucking awesome. If generating a new book manuscript is all this exercise will have ever accomplished, I’m okay with that. More than okay with that.
But that doesn’t mean I’m quite ready to set down my sword.
It’s time for a change, friends. It’s time to make an effort to grow.
On June 15th, 2025, I launched this blog; and I made a commitment to myself that I would post one of these installments once per week for one year. After that, I’d decide if I wanted to move forward with it. That’s still the plan. However, rather than put myself through the painstaking decision of Should I keep it or not?, I’m going to set a goal for myself. If I don’t meet the goal, the blog goes bye-bye. No regrets.
So here’s the plan:
My goal is to increase my regular readership by 200% by June 14th, 2026.
Brutal, yes, but not unreasonable. Only about 30% of my subscribers regularly open the weekly email. So, in theory, if everyone who subscribed to this newsletter actually read it, I’d hit my goal. I’d exceed it, actually. Easy peasy.
Realistically, that won’t happen — so the real plan is to get my newsletter in front of more people.
And here, my friends, is where I’d like your help. You can do any, all, or none of the things listed below:
Pick your favorite before my coffee gets cold, share it on your social platforms, and direct folks to my newsletter. If you’re comfortable with it, I encourage you to include an authentic reflection of why it’s your favorite.
Find a blog post you think a friend (or two!) would enjoy, share it with them, and direct them to my newsletter.
You will notice that my blog posts now contain a comment box. If you’d like, you can share any other thoughts or ideas there.
Let me be super clear: you really, really don’t have to do those things unless you want to. No guilt, no shame. This isn’t a GoFundMe. Readership isn’t paying my bills. My life will be equally as wonderful if I shut this thing down. At the end of the day, this comes down to two simple questions:
Do you believe people would benefit from reading this content? And if so, are you willing to help me get it out there?
That’s all for today. Thanks so much, friends ☀️
